Deafblindness is a condition that until recently was thought to affect 23,000 people in the United Kingdom, new statistics indicate the actual number is at least 250,000. The largest group of this dual sensory loss are contained within the elderly population, the remainder are distributed between:
those congenitally deafblind
those congenitally blind who acquire hearing impairment
those congenitally deaf who acquire visual impairment
and
those who acquire deafblindness.
Deafblindness does not necessarily mean totally deaf and or blind.
The chances that you will meet, or perhaps work with these people depend on your profession, personality and perspective.
If you consider it possible that you would benefit from professional training for these situations, we can deliver the appropriate programme to suit your specific needs, either as an individual or a group.
We can deliver this at Derby College for Deaf People.
