Derby College for Deaf People Statement 2 April 2004

DCDP Governors and Trustee’s have taken the decision to close the college in July 2004. This is a statement to keep you informed of the situation at Derby College for Deaf People. At this present time DCDP will close in July 04. The Board of Governors and the Trustee Board have meet and have decided that all the college business will end in July and all the staff will be given a compulsory redundancy package. The Board of Governors and the Trustee Board have given their assurance that all the college learners will be supported up to the end of the summer term. This means that all the students will be given all the support they need to successfully complete the year. The Senior Management Team and the staff have also made a commitment to support the students through this difficult time. It is the responsibility of DCDP and the LSC to manage an exit strategy that supports and encourages students to continue with their studies and to manage a transition programme to an alternative College or Workplace. Some students have expressed an interest in staying in Derby to continue their studies. We are presently working closely with the LSC to secure funding for residence and support. The talks are at a very early stage and nothing has been finalised. We are planning to have a final closure party at the Derby Assembly Rooms (date to be decided) and we will let you have more details in the summer term. Yours sincerely The Senior Management Team Peter Farrar Richard Linley Mick Wright Lisa Peacock Tony Winstanley Jonathan Despres
