Local College Integration
Students at Derby College for Deaf People integrate into local colleges for the vast majority of their educational timetable. They attend identical courses to hearing students and are assessed by the same series of assignments and examinations. It is our aim to provide comprehensive communication support to ensure that deaf students have equal access to the course of their choice.

Derby College for Deaf People is a Residential College.

The students who attend DCDP live on campus or in accommodation linked to the local university. During the day, our students attend one of the colleges shown opposite.

Assessment Standards
It is our aim at Derby College for Deaf People to offer an equal opportunity to everyone who wishes to study here. Our assessment programme is designed to allow prospective students enough time to experience what life is like at DCDP. The two-day visit is designed to show candidates as much of the college as possible so they can make an informed decision based on first hand experience.

How do you decide which course to take?
Which course students choose depends on the qualifications they achieve before they arrive (some courses do not require students to have any qualifications). As part of the initial assessment programme, we will talk to students about their interests and possible career path.

History of deaf students at DCDP
The five local colleges (Broomfield, Burton, Mackworth, South East Derbyshire and Wilmorton) have included many deaf students in the past. A team of Communication Support Workers has a base in each college, managed by a Co-ordinator.
